We did the usual day off activities...weekly shop...pottering...etc...and then, I decided to combat the 'chickens that won't perch' issue. I got out my D.I.Y tools (yes, I do have them...and am not afraid to use them!!) and set about altering the perches in the hen house to better accomodate the little dears. Needless to say, the process took the guts of an hour (or two...wasn't counting), involved me rolling about in chicken poo, etc. Despite this...I'm fairly pleased with the end results!
My thinking behind this 'design' was that (get me...I've gone all sixty minute makeover)...they all perch outside on their natural tree trunk perches outside, but refuse to perch on the smooth, clean wooden ones inside. So, I decided to trial run some natural perches...and more of them...in case the lazy girls felt too 'tired' to hop up on to anything higher than an inch off the ground! :o)
I'll let you know how this new idea works out...however, I can report that as of tonight.....
Still roosting in the *$£%&* floor and nest box....Grrrrrr.....!! *sighs* In fairness to the Marans, it's only day five in their new house....but...the faverolles have no excuse!!! :o)
Why, oh why, do we bother?? :o)
